They are looking for a striking image of an Indian man in an ENERGETIC pose. The novel summary: A sweeping novel about India and especially Gujurat, focusing on the story of one shrine, and one boy, Karsan Dargawalla, a boy who just wants to play but will one day become the shrine’s keeper. My initial brief was as follows: THE COVER Style: A completely new look in paperback. We want this novel to look CONTEMPORARY and URGENT, full of atmosphere and revolutionary political action. Suggest focusing on the 1982 riots between Muslims and Hindus in Gujurat. A bold, energetic photograph of rioters – preferably focusing on one young man – caught up in the euphoria of the riots. We want the cover to capture the tension but also the excitement of the riots. The focus should not be on the brutality and violence, but on the atmosphere and charisma of the moment. Bold, urgent and character-led. However - having done an initial search it was decided that this was too specific and the brief was widened: BRIEF: Could you look at very general searching, or 'indian man' in an ENERGETIC pose. The trouble with finding images based on riots, is that they are innately aggressive - the brief kind of contradicted itself. So, I think you should look very generally indeed, out of the 80s, out of the context of riots. The right shot could be at a rally of Benezir Bhutto for instance, or at a religious festival. I sincerely hope that someone may be able to help me. I don't think I have found what I am looking for yet at all.
