John Birdsall Social Issues Photo Library is a 'people' library with a difference - images taken in the local community of people going about daily life. The majority of the images are model released so are available for commercial and advertising uses as well as editorial. So if you are looking for pictures of real people then this is the library for you.

The library specialises in images of British social care, whether the elderly, adults or children. A large number are cleared for more sensitive use, eg mental health issues and adoption.

Since April, the library has been managed by Liz Somerville who ran the Photofusion Picture Library for many years. Please contact her for a quote or if you'd like help with a search.

On Thursday, April, 9, 2015, Steve Kean's latest exhibition, "Spina Bifida Front to Back" opens at the Abbozzo Gallery, 401 Richmond St. W. in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Part of the Tangled Art+Disability 2015 Festival program, "STRANGE BEAUTY", it features portraits of people who live with Spina Bifida. There are two images of each person. One, a typical portrait in colour on a white background representing how that person wants to be seen in the world. The second image of each person is an intimate, personal picture that shows their back, the source of the disability and it's challenges, pain and stigma. This image is in black and white against a white background and shows viewers a truth and dignity that commands respect.
