AWARD-WINNING PHOTOGRAPHER OPENS UP HIS S.W. FRANCE HOME

Matthew Weinreb, one of the leading names in architectural and landscape photography has agreed to run a series of master classes from his estate in the stunning dept. of the Gers in Gascony, S.W. France.

Weinreb, known internationally for his photography has been offering advice to both amateur and professional photographers for decades. Now he has bowed to pressure and will host four day residential courses which will help you to compose, light, shoot in the field and finally select and crop your best images.

Highlights will include 14th July in Carcassonne, France - Europe's largest fortified city still standing. Bastille day is celebrated in Carcassonne like no other in France - they quite literally fire up the medieval Cité with the most incredible fireworks display! An exhibition of new photographs by leading South West photographer Simon Williams features at the Ice House Gallery, in Holland Park, Kensington, London from Saturday 14 to Sunday 29 August 2010.

The exhibition - 1 1 2 3 5 8 13 21 34 55 89 mathematics in nature - features striking images revealing mathematical patterns and proportions which are common throughout the natural world.

Mathematics is closely related to our concepts of beauty. The Fibonacci Sequence is a series of numbers (in the title) developed by an Italian mathematician: by adding two consecutive numbers you find the next in the sequence. It’s closely related to the Golden Mean used in compositions by artists since the renaissance and found throughout the natural world. This exhibition of stunning new photographic work of patterns and proportions found in nature looks at how natural designs optimise the chances of success for plants and animals. The exhibition features information panels and books/websites to encourage you to investigate further…a source of inspiration for artists/makers or for those interested in the natural world or mathematics.

The exhibition at the Ice House Gallery in Holland Park is open from 11am to 7pm daily (14 – 29 August) and admission is free. All photographs are available to buy. The nearest tube is Holland Park.

The World Championship of Pétanque, the traditional French game of bowls, took place in Marseille between the 4th and the 8th of July 2010. Roland Bouvier was on the spot despite of a burning sun. Take a look at his portfolio you will probably learn a lot about this Mediterranean port.

Roland Bouvier will be in Megève (French Alps) during the last 2 weeks of August and in the Fall, some of his photographs will be available in medium format size at 40Mp a must for XXL posters. An example is his image of a painting by Bernard Lorjou - PD2831799 (first trial, ambiant daylight through the window) and scrutinize the brush strokes, it's impressive.

Philip McCormick is having a solo exhibition of some of his India photographs at the Nehru Centre High Commission of India, 8 South Audley Street, Mayfair, London W1K 1HF.

Entitled "India: The past is the Present and the Present is the Past", it explores the cultural diversity of, and recent changes taking place within, a country where the past is very much present alongside the huge changes of the here and now.

The exhibition runs from 10-20 August inclusive (except the 14th and 15th), and the opening hours are 10am-6pm.

Gavin also leads photo tours globally and has recently announced plans for two photo expeditions to Bhutan and Laos for Autumn 2010.

Bhutan: Sep 13 - 25, 2010. This expedition will coincide with the autumn festival (tsechu) season, allowing participants the pleasure of photographing lively, colourful celebrations that are impossible to witness elsewhere. This photo expedition promises to be a memorable experience.

Laos: Oct 10 - 24, 2010. Gavin leads this remarkable tour through northern Laos with Australian based humanitarian photographer, Tim Humble (http://www.fotofugitive.com/). The expedition is scheduled to coincide with the colourful Awk Phansa festival, which marks the end of Buddhist Lent. Participants will enjoy some of the most richly varied photo opportunities in South East Asia.
