Jacqueline Windh will be in Muenster, Germany, for the opening of her exhibit "Into the Light: Residential School Survivors Speak". Portraits of survivors of Canada's Indian Residential School Survivor are accompanied by the subjects' own words, telling of the abuse that they experienced in the residential schools, and how those experiences continue to haunt their communities today. "Into the Light" is part of an exhibit on west-coast native people that opens at Muenster's Westfalisches Museum fur Naturkunde on September 15. Jacqueline's main geographical areas of coverage include Western Canada, Chilean Patagonia, Polynesian islands, Australia and Spain. Main themes are indigenous people, wilderness, the environment, and adventure sports and travel. Jacqueline is available for assignments. She is based on Vancouver Island, Canada, and her travels in the coming months include Germany, Denmark, Cook Islands and Chile. Jana Birchum is a social documentary/news photographer based in Austin,
Texas. She is currently at work on a photo essay called "Iraq from
Here", focusing on the effects of the War in Iraq on Central Texas.
Included is new material on Cindy Sheehan's vigil against the war
outside the Bush compound in Crawford, Texas; images from the
deployment of local National Guard troops; a recent Marine funeral; and
the Abu Ghraib court-martials. She has also completed a fun new photo story on the Texas Rollergirls and the resurgence of Roller Derby in the United States. Roller Derby is a full-contact female-only sport, with elbows flying, full body-checks and all-out fist fights.
