Galena, a Union Navy ironclad screw steamer, dragged another ship, Oneida, out of the firing range of the defending forts after her boiler had been shelled. The battle resulted in the Union fleet incapacitating the Confederate warships, allowing a land force to lay siege to and capture three forts, Powell, Gaines and Morgan. American Civil War
