Description: Locals and tourists visiting one of the Hindu temples by Grand Bassin lake, Mauritius. Grand Bassin, also known as ’Ganga Talao’ by hindus, is a volcanic crater lake situated in the south west of the island of Maurities at around 1800 feet (550 metres) above sea level. It is considered to be the most sacred place in Mauritius for hindus. During the annual festival of Maha Shivaratri thousands of pilgrims on the island descend to the temples of Grand Bassin on foot to pray and offer food to the gods.
