Description: Hawick is a town in the historic county of Roxburghshire in the east Southern Uplands of Scotland. When the town was in danger of losing this privileged position, mob rioting during local elections in 1835 resulted in one death, one count of assault. Tories were thrown in the Teviot and people were simply beaten up in full view of the Hawick Bailies (who policed elections in the town).
