Description: When the Catholic Relief Act 1829 was passed the The Earl of Winchelsea accused the Prime Minister, the Duke of Wellington, of "the infringement of liberties and the introduction of Popery ..." Wellington challenged Winchilsea to a duel on 21 March 1829, on Battersea fields. When it the time came to fire, the Duke took aim and fired wide. Winchelseadid not fire, honour was saved and Winchilsea wrote Wellington an apology.
