The Ethiopian Wolf is the rarest of the wild dogs or wolves and strictly protected . The overall population is estimated at about 500 700 animals . In Bale exists the largest individual population . The biggest threat is habitat loss due to population pressure and the risk of canine diseases like rabies . These diseases are spreading from the dog population of the resident nomadic Pastoralists .
