The murals painted by the Bogside Artists are an ongoing project since 1994 due to be completed in 2008 . The murals depict key moments in the Northern Ireland troubles from a Derry perspective . The Bogside Artists are William Kelly , Tom Kelly and Kevin Hasson . The mural was painted in 1996 and depicts Bernadette McAliskey ( nee Devlin ) addressing crowds in the Bogside . She received a prison sentence for taking part in and inciting a riot . She was the youngest woman ever elected to the British Parliament making her maiden speech on her 22nd birthday .
